2021 starts well at Muga Eco village with Fish farming promising
At Muga Eco Village, we started the New Year 2021 on a good note by carrying out an important activity of sampling the fish stock in our fish ponds. We stocked these fish ponds in May 2020 with tilapia fingerlings.
According to Charles Mulondo a fisheries officer with Bushenyi district Local government, the fish is picking up in growth compared to the previous size (at the time of stocking.) Mulondo says the full harvest will be carried out in June-July 2021 if the feeding is constant with quality fish feeds. Mulondo described the project is viable.
Mulondo says market for is available though currently is frozen due to the lock down as a result of COVID-19 which has paralyzed the entire World affecting both local and external markets.
He encourages fish farmers and those planning to venture in it to ensure they stock quality seed from legally accepted suppliers, take up records of the entire process and to always get in touch with extension workers to be updated on the demand and size of the fish required on the market.
Fish farming is among the different enterprises at Muga Eco village being used to promote agro-tourism Bushenyi District and the entire region.
While at Muga Eco Village one is given the opportunity to go early morning fishing at the fish ponds. A guest can fry/roast it him/herself or we can fry/roast it for you.
